Convert a MOV video to MP4
Turn a .mov file into a widely compatible MP4 (H.264) in a few clicks using MetaMorph Media's Export As dialog. Everything happens locally on your Mac.

Before you begin
- MetaMorph Media installed on your Mac from the Mac App Store.
- The .mov file you want to convert, saved somewhere on your Mac.
- A little free disk space for the new MP4 file (the original is kept).
Step by step
Open your MOV file in MetaMorph Media
Launch MetaMorph Media and open the .mov file you want to convert. Files are read directly from your Mac — there is no upload step and your video never leaves your computer.
Review the file before exporting (optional)
If you want, inspect or edit the file's metadata — title, author, genre, location, and more — before you export. Anything you change is written into the new file you create in the next steps.
Open the Export As dialog
Start an export to open the Export As dialog. This is where you choose the output format, the destination, and the file name for the converted copy.
Choose MP4 (H.264) as the format
Select MP4 (H.264) from the format menu. H.264 is the most broadly compatible MP4 encoding and plays on virtually every phone, browser, editor, and social platform.
MP4 (H.264) is the safe default for sharing. Choose it whenever you are unsure which format to pick.
Pick a destination and file name
Choose the destination folder, optionally create a new subfolder to keep things tidy, and set the output file name. Then confirm to start the export.
Export and verify the result
MetaMorph Media writes a new .mp4 file to the folder you chose. Your original .mov is left untouched, so you always keep the source. Open the new MP4 to confirm it plays as expected.
Tips & troubleshooting
Your original stays safe
Exporting creates a new file. The original .mov is never overwritten, so you can re-export at any time if you need a different format.
Large files take longer
High-resolution or long videos take more time and disk space to export. Make sure you have room on your drive before you start.
Unsupported files
If a file cannot be read, MetaMorph Media shows a clear message rather than failing silently. Check that the file is a standard, undamaged video.
