Extract a video's audio to MP3
Pull the audio track out of a video and save it as a standalone .mp3 file using MetaMorph Media's Export As dialog. Everything happens locally on your Mac.

Before you begin
- MetaMorph Media installed on your Mac from the Mac App Store.
- A video file (MP4, MOV, and more) that actually contains an audio track.
- A little free disk space for the new MP3 file (the original video is kept).
Step by step
Open your video in MetaMorph Media
Launch MetaMorph Media and open the video you want the audio from — MP4, MOV, or another supported format. The file is read straight from your Mac with no upload step.
Open the Export As dialog
Start an export to open the Export As dialog. This is the same place you choose an output format, destination folder, and file name.
Choose MP3 as the format
Select MP3 from the format menu. MetaMorph Media extracts the audio track from your video and prepares it as a standalone audio file — the video itself is not included in the output.
MP3 plays almost everywhere — podcast apps, music players, editors, and transcription tools — which makes it the safest audio format to share.
Pick a destination and file name
Choose the destination folder, optionally create a new subfolder, and set the output file name. Then confirm to start the export.
Export and verify the audio
MetaMorph Media writes a new .mp3 file containing the audio from your video. Your original video stays untouched. Play the MP3 to confirm the audio sounds right.
Tips & troubleshooting
The video needs sound
You can only extract audio that exists. If a video was recorded without sound or has a silent track, the resulting MP3 will be silent too.
Your original stays safe
Exporting creates a new audio file. The source video is never overwritten, so you can go back and re-export whenever you need.
File size
Audio-only MP3 files are far smaller than the source video, which makes them quick to share by email or messaging.
